Unless you’ve been living in a box (a cardboard box?) for the last year or two, you may well have noticed the resurgence of 90s dance, electro, and swaggering indie sounds. Although the industry is hailing 2013 as the “return of guitar music,” it seems The Caulfield Beats are ignoring this notice entirely, in favour of riding the 90’s neon wave.
The London-based three-piece are doing things their own way, taking their 90s influences and amalgamating them with the torrenting culture that developed in the early 00’s.
The band’s video for “glitch::glitch::flame” is the perfect introduction to their forthcoming EP “Garage Electronics Vol. 1,” which offers a rainbow of experimental sounds. It’s quite apparent these guys are of the 90s persuasion as you’re plunged into what feels like a glitchy acid trip. It’s this cut and paste, DIY element to the visuals and music that gives the band their charm.
More polished and experimental electronic bands may have dominated the charts for the last few years, but The Caulfield Beats have swerved a little more left of left field. You’re brain may not be quite the same after the journey.
