Boy / girl duos can be somewhat of a cliché, especially those who come bracketed under the genre of folk. Rue Royale however, are something special. They’ve transcended the shackles of the folk genre and instead create beautiful melodies and layered vocal harmonies that are more akin to Andrew Bird meets She & Him—minus the twee overtones.
Their third album, Remedies Ahead is thick with atmosphere and rich sonic textures. Ruth and Brookln’s voices intertwine perfectly and there are goose bump inducing moments of beauty throughout. The chemistry musically certainly comes from the fact the pair are also life partners. Having met in the US, they now reside in Nottingham and with this latest album are signed to Sinnbus.
The band are about to embark on another UK and European tour with their second single, “Pull Me Like A String” out very soon. If you’ve not already heard of Rue Royale, go check them out immediately. They are one class act.
