Chalk is the latest artist on Sonic Anhedonic Recording Company to release a debut album. Both Chalk and the label are Brighton based and they’re flying the flag for the abundance of talent emanating from Britain’s most colourful seaside town.
Chalk is Steven Stride, a songwriter who manages to be cerebral without becoming lost in the avant-garde. He writes simple, thought-provoking songs that will have you mesmerised after a few listens.
Although Steven’s music may remind you of bands like Grizzly Bear, his influences actually span further—Cursive and The Paper Chase have been mentioned as two of his favourites and although you may not hear this immediately in the sound, the composition of some of his tracks has that classic underground emo flavour.
