Stolen Records will be releasing an exclusive sampler for Record Store Day this week, with the repertoire featuring six of the label’s acts, each contributing two tracks, one new and one classic. The vinyl only release will be limited to 200 copies, each one hand silk screen printed and numbered. Featured artists are Bo Ningen; JEFF The Brotherhood; My Sad Captains; Serafina; The European, and the aforementioned Pete And The Pirates.
The International Artists label is best known for the 13th Floor Elevators’ hit singles and seminal albums but the label also released a series of groundbreaking records from acts such as The Red Krayola, Lost & Found and The Golden Dawn. Over the past two years Charly Records have embarked on a re-issue programme, with all of the original albums released on the label as distinctive limited luxury editions. For these releases the albums have been re-mastered from the original tapes and it is from these new sessions that these two new limited edition 7″ singles are taken.
‘Wait For My Love’ is the Elevators ‘lost’ sixth single, which was originally planned as a single in 1968 but never released. The 7″ will be pressed on green vinyl with ‘May The Circle Remain Unbroken’ on the b-side. The versions of the tracks on the single differ from those previously released as they have been re-mastered by Sonic Boom (Spacemen Three).
Sonic Boom, who recently produced albums for MGMT and Panda Bear, has also re-mastered the Red Krayola single. The A-side is an exclusive remix of the track ‘Hurricane Fighter Plane’, especially for this release, whilst the flip side is taken from forthcoming 2CD deluxe edition of the ‘Parable Of Arable Land’ album.
Both singles are limited to 2000 copies worldwide, will be packaged in International Artists’ house bags and are available this coming Saturday, as part of Record Store Day.
Tim Smith, the lead singer songwriter and guitarist of Cardiacs and numerous other music projects, suffered a severe stroke in 2008. The stroke has left Tim incapacitated, so a host of the acts that he has influenced have recorded versions of his tracks for the charity album, ‘Leader of the Starry Skies’.
Two of the tracks from the album are now going to be released on a very limited white vinyl 7″ single. The tracks are Steven Wilson’s version of ‘Stoneage Dinosaur’ and Oceansize’s cover of ‘Fear’. In addition to raising awareness and money for Tim (all profits from the single will go to him) the single will also be supporting this year’s Record Store Day, which, as I’m sure you all know by now, takes place on Saturday.
‘Stoneage Dinosaur’ / ‘Fear’ is limited to only 2000 copies (which will only be available in the shops participating in Record Store Day in Europe).
Steven Wilson is currently on tour with his Blackfield project following the release of their latest album, ‘Welcome To My DNA’, but it for his work with Porcupine Tree that he is best known. While Steven’s career has been in a constant ascendancy for the last few years, unfortunately Mancunian progressive / post-rock greats Oceansize have recently decided to call it a day.
Chicago 3-piece Smith Westerns are currently in the UK touring as main support to the Vaccines. The band play London’s Cargo, in Shoreditch tonight (Monday April 11th). The band are brothers Cullen and Cameron Omori (Vocals / Guitar and Bass, respectively) and Max Kakacek (Guitar). Produced and engineered by Chris Coady (Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV On The Radio), Dye It Blonde is the group’s first studio full-length, following 2009’s home-recorded ‘Smith Westerns’. Dye It Blonde will be released through Domino’s Weird World imprint on May 2nd, preceded by the single, Weekend on April 25th. You can watch the video for Weekend here:
