The Capture Effect’s debut EP “Frequencies” doesn’t shy away from the political, and with a banging opening track that’s steeped in dance floor friendly electro clash, infused with the venom of disenfranchisement, our interest was piqued.
Follow it up with fist pumping indie rock spliced with news coverage of the UK’s hacking scandal, which succinctly describes second track “Skywave,” and it becomes clear that The Capture Effect are adept at creating speaker busting classics with a conscience without coming across as too preachy.
Penultimate track, “London’s Burning” lulls the listener into a false sense of security during the verse, then explodes into an anthem as swan song—and a statement of intent. Played live with a familiar crowd, we can imagine that THIS track brings the “hold your hands in the air” moment.
“Ionised,” the final track on the EP, is a lot more laid back and gently ushers the listener back to reality—for the first half at least. At the two-minute mark, the drums kick in and suddenly we’re back in the club with the band, reaching for the lights and losing ourselves on the dancefloor in a sea of bodies.
The Capture Effect aren’t reinventing the wheel with this EP, but what they have done is shown off their ability to pen powerful pop rock that, as impressive as it is on record, we imagine completely destroys audiences at their shows. We cannot wait to catch them live.
