Electro pop duos have been ten a penny in recent years and only the strong have survived. Mano’s Daughter, however, have emerged as a duo that create something deeper and more intelligent than their flash-in-the-pan peers.
With their debut EP, “Smart,” Sarah Carter and Matthias Garrick have created a strong statement of intent with a sound that is mature beyond their years.
In five short tracks, you’re pulled into Mano’s Daughter’s dreamy, sensual world and by the time you’re done, the echoes of that memory will last for days. Stand out tracks “The Machine” and “Tailored” are intelligent pop tracks that channel the soulful vocals of Jesse Ware and smart electro pop of Chvrches. Carter’s vocals are the powerful back bone of each track on the EP as she teases with a casual, easy whisper and simultaneously sucker punches as she soars – her vocal range is impressive to say the least.
“Smart” EP is only their debut, but Mano’s Daughter already sound like a band that have been recording for years. With the ability to write songs that waver between blistering electro pop and brooding synth-with-soul, the only way is up for this intriguing London two-piece.
