Needle Drop: Andrew Wasylyk, “Last Of The Loved”

Having spent the last few years writing and touring with Idlewild, Andrew Mitchell has decided to bookend the year with a solo release of his own under the name, Andrew Wasylyk. His debut album, Soroky displays his talent for a melancholic pop melody, and single “Last of the Loved” is a strong opening track and a real statement of intent.

The video for the song isn’t what you’d expect. A man in a monster mask and a pristine white suit wakes up in a hotel room, downs a pull, and leaves to visit art galleries, a church, an arcade… It’s a strange take on the song but the feeling of loneliness and melancholy is reflected throughout.

The video is a journey, and much like Wasylyk’s own songwriting—the song and video twist and turns—it closes on a more positive note as ‘The Last of the Loved” comes to its conclusion.

Andrew Wasylyk’s Soroky is out now and available to buy via Bandcamp.
