The TVD Record Store Club is another free feature we’ve added to The TVD Record Store Locator App that recently relaunched refreshed and rebranded. For your weekend we’ve got the classic, retro stylings of Simo in stores, and a whole lotta’ Phil. Collins, that is.
Simo, Let Love Show The Way (LP+MP3) | Let Love Show The Way is a blueprint for reinvigorating the fusion of jazz improvisation, downhome blues, and classic R&B, as well as these genres’ psychedelic Brit Invasion and countrified Southern-rock manifestations—a souped-up vehicle transporting the band on a deeply satisfying, off-the-cuff musical journey. Cut entirely live in full, unbroken takes—vocals and solos included—the sound is primal, sweltering and immediate.

The first album ever recorded at Macon, GA’s Big House—the communal home of the Allman Brothers Band during their late ‘60s/early ‘70s heyday—Let Love Show the Way finds Simo not just reveling in the hallowed space’s unique mojo and history, but taking it to a fresh and inspired place.
As a musical unit, Simo, his longtime drummer Adam Abrashoff and bassist Elad Shapiro have an undeniable chemistry, taken to even greater heights with JD playing Duane Allman’s 1957 gold-top Les Paul for every track on the record. This is the same six-string heard on the first two Allman Brothers LPs, the same storied guitar that delivered the unforgettable riff on Derek & the Dominoes’ “Layla.” JD is now part of an elite group of artists—including Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes and Wilco’s Nels Cline—who share the rare honor of having wielded this talismanic instrument.

Phil Collins, Face Value (180 Gram Vinyl) | Phil Collins is an English singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music producer, and actor. He gained fame as both the drummer and lead singer for the rock band Genesis, and he also gained worldwide fame as a solo artist. Collins is one of the most successful songwriters and performers of all time, singing the lead vocals on dozens of hit albums and singles in the UK and the US between 1976 and 2010, either as a solo artist or with Genesis. He has been described by AllMusic as “one of the most successful pop and adult contemporary singers of the ’80s and beyond.”
Initially released shortly after Collins’ 30th birthday, Face Value was propelled to international multi-Platinum status with the help of the smash hit single “In The Air Tonight.” Other notable tracks on the album include the follow-up singles “I Missed Again” and “If Leaving Me Is Easy,” as well as “Behind The Lines” which was written with Collins’ Genesis colleagues Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford. This release is now available on 180gm single LP.
Phil Collins, Both Sides (2LP 180 Gram Vinyl) | 1993’s Both Sides shares a similarly introspective atmosphere to Face Value, and features the Top 10 hit “Both Sides of the Story” as well as further singles “Everyday” and “We Wait And We Wonder.” Remastered by Nick Davis this album will be available on 180gm vinyl.
Phil Collins, Take A Look At Me Now, Collector’s Edition (3LP 180 Gram Vinyl) | Entirely curated and compiled by Collins himself, this idea for the “Take A Look At Me Now” concept is to examine how his songs have evolved over time, with the majority of the additional content throughout the series focused on live versions of the tracks. By contrasting the original studio versions of the material with later performances, the series demonstrates how Collins’ songs take on a life of their own once they’re freed from the confines of the studio.
A 3-LP vinyl boxed set will be available which compiles 180gm vinyl editions of both Face Value and Both Sides together.
