After their critically-acclaimed 2007 debut Fort Nightly and 2009’s It’s Frightening, a sophomore album that defies all accusations of “slump,” White Rabbits are back again with their third album Milk Famous.
Milk Famous is currently streaming on NPR, where it can be heard in its entirety. The first release and first track on the album is “Heavy Metal,” which they hail as the “ominous opener… crackles with nervous energy; in four and a half minutes, the song throws out enough skittering synth loops, deafening guitar blasts and paranoid lyrics to leave you looking over your shoulder.”
The album is released digitally and on CD today via TBD Records, with the LP released next Tuesday, March 13th, via White Iris.

In addition to the release of Milk Famous, White Rabbits kick off their tour tonight at Union Transfer in Philly and will be swinging by the sold-out Black Cat tomorrow night here in Washington, DC. Tennis supports both shows, with The War On Drugs supporting select subsequent shows. (See below for US tour dates.)
With It’s Frightening, produced by Spoon frontman Britt Daniel, earning them comparisons to Spoon, Milk Famous was produced by Spoon producer Mike McCarthy. However, Milk Famous takes a more introverted, cerebral turn. It will be interesting to see, in their live show, how the five multi-instrumentalists have transitioned in the past three years from the raw percussive power so perfectly executed in “Percussion Gun,” the opening track on It’s Frightening, to the slickly nuanced electronic riffs of “Heavy Metal.”
