Greetings from Laurel Canyon!
Friday last, not too long after I posted the week’s Idelic Hour, I received a surprising text message. Something rare for a change, a REAL rock ‘n roll rumor. I could have easily brushed it off as a prank, but my instincts for these kind of things left me in suspense.
Could it be? Are The Rolling Stones really gonna play a club gig in Silverlake? Maybe the question I should have been asking myself is, do I really care? (Of course I fucking care! Probably more so about the rumor than seeing the actual gig.) I quickly emailed the club proprietors expecting a laugh as a reply.
To my delight, dead silence, from which my excitement and suspicions grew.
At some point Saturday morning, an eerie confirmation from the club booker and a call from an excited young friend, and this seemingly unreal rumour was becoming a happening worth checking into. Sure enough, Stones fans were lining up for tickets.
A part of me was thinking I’m too old for this, while a deeper part of me came alive. My blood was boiling like a Werewolf with a full moon. At the very least, I had check this scene. I grabbed my son Jonah, and we headed down to see if this “Stones action” was real.
Indeed, it was all going on ’70s style…well, kind of. A motley crew of all types of Stones fans circled the block for their first or last chance to see the “Greatest Rock ‘n Roll Show On Earth.”
