Greetings from Laurel Canyon!
Dearest Mom,
Something tells me you will somehow find your way to discovering this “open fan letter.” I’m probably not the greatest son when it comes to showing my love and appreciation, but mom—this hour of music is dedicated to you.
Now that I’m a parent of two, I’m often struck by the irony of my ingrained behavior toward you. I know now being a mom isn’t always easy, and Mom I gotta tell ya, I’m sure glad I have you covering my back. Your ten thousand per cent unconditional love and support is something I cherish.
So Mom, I’m calling the show “Idelic Mom.” Translated it means, “Best mom for Jon Sidel!” While playing these 20 or so records, I was tapping into that “groovy” energy between rocker sons and their moms. The hour of music is not to be taken liberally—it’s really just a way I can express myself. That said, most of the songs have something to do with moms, mama’s, and mommys.
Thanks again for visiting us in the canyon. We were all thrilled and grateful that you could be with us these last couple of weeks.
