With a short and busy week coming out of Labor Day weekend, it’s back to work, back to school, and for me back to rock ‘n roll. Certainly the two full days of watching cool band after cool band in the hot Fyeah Festival sun, has put this Idelic host on track. The weekend was a family affair, and we rocked the Summer of 2012 away.
On Labor Day our family rested—literally. We ate burgers, sunbathed, and slept. The realization of Summer’s departure was crawling through my skin. Memories of Summers past, stored in my body like DNA, came sweating to the surface. My body was fourteen, driving back from East Hampton. I could feel the muggy heat of Flushing, Queens knowing that tomorrow Summer was lost—I would be in a jacket and tie, dressed for the first day of prep school.
What a trip!
In fact, the Summer of the 2012 was quite a trip. Here in the Canyon, Summer lingers like Doors songs. (Truth is we’ll have beach weather until mid October.) This week’s Idelic Hour is not dedicated to the weather however, but to those moments in life when we say to ourselves…
What a fucking trip!
My big advice—go buy an album! There are a bunch of cool ones hitting the racks: Animal Collective, Tame Impala, Natural Child, Cat Power, Sean Rowe, David Byrne & St. Vincent, ZZ Top, and Two Gallants. Take your pick and spin your way into Fall!
