TVD’s The Idelic Hour with Jon Sidel

Greetings from Laurel Canyon!

Today will be my first day back on the Empire Polo Grounds in a few years. I’m sure much has changed since Beck, Morrissey, Tool, Rage, and The Chemical Bros. headlined the very first, very fun, and the very under attended Coachella Valley Music & Arts Annual Festival. One thing I can assure you has not changed, some kids are gonna have a mighty rocking time!

Coachella is first and foremost about one thing—California! Yes, Coachella is ours! This festival (like life) is not all perfect, but in many ways what could be better than three days in the desert sun with the coolest music, hosted by our pals at Goldenvoice?

Paul T, Skip, and Rick Van Satin (RIP) alway knew and respected the main ingredient, a three letter word; FUN! I must admit at 50, having fun can often be a challenge. Over the years I’ve picked up a few “Californian” traits and one of them is knowing how to party “so-cal” style.

I’m sure at some point today I will be yearning for Rick Van Satin’s private room loaded with candy, chips, soda, and reeking of the choicest “cron.” Rick, I know you’re up there watching over us with a million dollar smile.

So, here’s my first of a 2 part Coachella playlist. I’m sure there are tons of these all over internet and Spotify, but I approached this playlist as a parents guide to the festival—for music fans with roots, but who might not be as hip as festival organizer, Paul T.

Coachella! It’s a LA passtime, it’s a tradition, a California rock ‘n roll celebration, and a fucking big multi-million dollar party. Long live Coachella!!
