Greetings from Laurel Canyon!
Being Jewish, it’s not uncommon that Good Friday sneaks right up on me. Had Susan and Jessie Dylan not graciously hosted their annual Easter egg hunt here in the Canyon for many years, I probably wouldn’t be able to decipher Peter and The Test Tube Babies from Peter the Rabbit.
But hey, it’s Good Friday in the middle of Spring Break and that means let’s bail out of work early and get loaded!
Well, that’s not exactly what my world is today, but I’ll hang on to this rock ‘n roll sentiment I’m feeling for at least the afternoon. This attidude is the vibe behind this week’s Idelic Hour. Back in my delinquent school days, we used to call it “hooky”—when you say to yourself, “Fuck it, I’m taking a little time to do just what I want.”
The truth is, my plan is to give my lovely wife a break from chasing our three year old son around all day. That’s my Good Friday, but this here hour of music is “my hour” of freedom, so please join me on my little spin—a musical carpet ride, if you will. This Idelic Spring Break features a few choice oldies and a number of new bands from the last few years who are releasing singles from their sophomore releases.
