TVD’s The Idelic Hour with Jon Sidel

Greetings from Austin, Texas!

Breathe, eat, sleep, and drink SXSW—that’s what I was thinking last week. This week, SXSW is what I’m doing.

I feel like vintage guitar amp with a blown tube. Weird analogy, and you probably have to play through a Fender Bassman to get what I’m talking about. The amp sounds amazing missing a tube, but likely to fry completely if it’s pushed too far.

Therefore I’m gonna try and pace myself to make it through these couple of days. Yesterday I caught a rush and saw Beached, Alabama Shakes, Howlin Rain, Mikal Cronin, Haim, The Gossip, and Fiona Apple. The back to back combination of Britney (Shakes), Beth Ditto, and Fiona was mind boggling—women so soulful and Fiona so, so raw. What a day of music!

Looking forward to two more days of music, friends, rock ‘n roll magic, and Texas!

PS: Walking down Red River Avenue, a guy handed me this sticker and said, “Hey man, I think you need this.” Fitting in is fun down here.
