Greetings from Laurel Canyon!
California is definitely in the air as the world of indie rock and dance descend on Coachella. Although for me and my friends, the festival has changed, having become a more commercial and “youngster” event, it is still “ours,” meaning it’s southern Cal’s contribution to the world of rock festivals. It’s my tradition to just enjoy what we have to offer; warm, dry, sunny April days, laid back attitudes, and great bands.
I’m calling this week’s show Idelic “Desert Fest.” This weekend’s challenge will be pacing ourselves. Tomorrow many of us will have to recover from a long, hot day of music and run to a record shop for Record Store Day and then back onto a hot field. Might I suggest bringing a cooler of ice for any vinyl you may buy?
In the mix, Idelic suggestions for both Coachella and Record Store Day. Ariel Pink, Tame Impala, The Black Keys, Cut Copy, Animal Collective, Elbow, PJ Harvey, Twin Shadow, old school heroes Big Audio Dynamite and Wire.
Let’s take a drive into the desert for an Idelic “Desert Fest!”
