TVD’s The Idelic Hour with Jon Sidel

Greetings from Laurel Canyon!

This morning, the hippies in the canyon are talking about one thing—this groovy date of 11-11-11. Today, when the moon is the the 7th house and Jupiter aligns with Mars. The hope is that peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars. Yes, today by most accounts is the first day of the Age of Aquarius.

Harmony and understanding,
Sympathy and trust abounding,
No more falsehoods or derisions,
Golden living dreams of visions,
Mystic crystal revelation,
And the mind’s true liberation,
Aquarius! Aquarius!

In anticipation of this 11-11/”hippie holiday,” I’ve been digging through my crates for several weeks. Honestly, I’m finding this new age a lot to live up to. When I finally pieced together my playlist, I felt like I had only one foot in the ethos of the Aquarian Age.

In the end, Idelic “Age of Aquarius” is a fairly straight forward mash-up of spiritual ’60s hippie gems and current blogger artists. Reading the famous lyrics form Hair (above) I’m thinking it’s one of those “How true, but totally not what I thought,” moments.

For whatever reason it’s not Brian Wilson, George Harrison, Love, The Beatles, The 5th Dimension, or Satanic Majesty’s Request playing in my head this morning—it’s Young Man, Frank Ocean, Of Monsters & Men, and Little Red. “My Sweet Lord!”
