Greetings from Laurel Canyon!
This morning I awoke to a Facebook game. Several of my long time friends had made identical posts asking friends if they merely “scroll,” or actually read posts from friends. If the answer is you do read what your friends post, play the game and leave one word to describe where we first met.
I guess it’s best to take a look to see for yourself, but for the record I’ve met most of you at a bar with music blasting.
I’m not sure if you have scrolled past this, but for those who read or care to listen, this will likely be the second of two playlists dedicated to the sounds of Indian Summer here in LA.
Morning found us calmly unaware
Noon burn gold into our hair
At night, we swim the laughin’ sea
When summer’s gone
Where will we be
Where will we be
Where will we be
Last week I bragged how we “Angelinos” would be at a beach. Sunday came and so there we were on the Santa Monica Pier for the Way Over Yonder Festival watching the likes of Jonathan Wilson, Spirit Family Reunion, Felice Brothers, Connor Oberst, and First Aid Kit. The setting was magnificent. Calm seas, clear sunny skies, ninety degree heat, the day capped by a magic sunset.
Red sky at night, sailors delight
Sunday’s sunset sparked a yearly ritual of listening only to music by The Doors . It was California sunset like Sunday’s that inspired a young Jim Morrison to write spellbinding songs like “The Crystal Ship,” “Summer’s Almost Gone,” “The Spy,” “Ship Of Fools,” and “Moonlight Drive.”
On Tuesday the Santa Anna winds broke and Fall descended upon our canyon. I put down my Doors records and reached for this final Summer playlist…dreaming of sailing on warm, flat seas.
For you Facebook gamers, my word is “clubbing.” Thank you for listening.
