We’ve given away more than our fair share of LPs around here, but rare is the artist who’s willing to part with a record from her personal collection to underscore the power and emotion that said record has inspired in her work.
But Jack Davey’s a bit atypical. Both sensual and electric, her brand new release, L0-F! draws from these two wells—and The Stooges’ debut made quite the impression.
“My love affair with The Stooges started in 2003, at approximately 3am, while hanging out with some rockers after a party. One of the guys who was there starting playing records, and he put on this album. The moment I heard the first four bars of “1969,” I was completely floored. The fuzzy sound of the guitars, the energy, the raw I-don’t-give-a-fuck attitude that Iggy Pop emulates in everything he does, really spoke to me.
With songs like “I Want To Be Your Dog,” and “Pretty Little Doll,” this album is the quintessential punk record that really set the tone for the punk sound of that time.
This is one of the most influential records for me before, during, and after the creation of L0-F!. I wanted to capture that same essence of their debut album with my own debut album. I feel deeply that Iggy is my male counterpart—he’s my spirit animal.”
Watching and listening to him gives me the courage to do what I do.”
