TVD Vinyl Giveaway: Devendra Banhart,
Mala (Autographed)

Magical music-maker Devendra Banhart has resurfaced of late with yet another full-length effort. The multi-lingual singer-songwriter delivered his 8th studio album Mala last month, and we’ve got an autographed copy for some lucky Banhart…ian.

How can you get your hands on such a prize? The answer is easier than you may think…

Devandra Banhart is a prolific and eccentric songwriter with an affinity for odd videos and a unique vocal sense, as well as being suspected of being the inspiration of Russel Brand’s Aldous Snow. Banhart often references styles as old as the analog equipment he uses to record with. His sense of rich sound extends throughout his catalog, resulting in a warm and fuzzy aesthetic.

His most recent effort Mala is an effort committed to tape not on expensive machines housed in Abbey Road or the like, but on cheaper equipment he could use at home. “A lot of early hip-hop had been made on [the Tascam],” says Banhart. “And knowing my songs are not hip-hop whatsoever, we thought it would be interesting to see how these kinds of songs would sound on equipment that was used to record our favorite rap. Let’s see how this technology would work for us.” The new angle of recording in tandem with Banhart’s ever-maturing voice prompts a release with a further refined and focused sound.

So how can you get your hands on a signed copy of Mala? It’s simple! In the comments below, tell us your favorite eccentric musician. I’m going with Björk.

A winner with a North American mailing address will be chosen on Thursday, April 11.
