A new generation of New Zealand acts is making its way to New York City next week to participate in a special CMJ Showcase, and by way of a preview for that evening (and akin to our previous time down under) TVD will sound a lot like New Zealand this week.
We’ll meet the bands and chat a bit about our favorite topic around here—rekkids.
It’s Day #3 and w’re continuing our week with Pikachunes.
I began collecting vinyl as a 14 year student in Christchurch after falling madly in love with a Mr. Scruff 12′ mix I was given by my best friend’s older brother. He was a guy I looked up to musically and can be blamed for the many years and dollars spent on Ninja Tune vinyl that followed after receiving that first album.
Pikachunes – Nervous
As I got older and left high school I began to practice mixing whenever I could on borrowed gear, building a diverse collection of records, but with a strong emphasis on disco and early house pressings.
These days it is a necessity for me to buy my music on vinyl as many of the music I like to mix and listen to is yet to be translated into a digital format. I also have never bothered to learn any more modern versions of DJing as I enjoy the aesthetic and hobby of owning vinyl.
