We’re delighted to announce that TVD has partnered with Warner’s Independent Label Group (ILG) to co-sponsor (along with Modern Art Records, Bright Antenna, and Black Bell Records) what we’re calling one damn fine SXSW showcase, for next Thursday night at Austin’s Soho Lounge.
On the bill for 3/15 are Miniature Tigers, The Chain Gang of 1974, Geographer, Magic Wands, Secret Music, and Stepdad—all of whom we’ve cornered as a lead up to the showcase for a chat about—right, records.
Kamtin Mohager, aka The Chain Gang of 1974 whose Wayward Fire LP was released last year, has a thought or 5 on the long player.
“From Phil Collins to Fleetwood Mac to the Stills, all of my favorite artists have put out albums,” explains Mohager. “I wanted to do the same thing, not just release a record you kinda skip through.”
“It’s obvious that listening to music on vinyl is a different experience. The sound alone is unique when compared to digital or CD. But for me, there are two main reasons for my vinyl obsession,” Mohager told us in an email.
“The first is the technology behind it. Every time I’m listening to one of my records, I’m so intrigued by how a needle is picking up such distinct sounds through precisely designed grooves. No other listening method of music comes close to that.
The second is owning such a special piece of music. I get so excited about holding one of my favorite album covers in such a large size, forever owning that piece of art.
My vinyl collection will never crash like someone’s hard drive will.”
