14-year-old San Francisco-based Spencer Barnett delivers hauntingly beautiful cover of Death Cab For Cutie’s “I Will Follow You Into The Dark.”
Barnett’s voice is crystal clear and quite ambiguous in its age. Considering the fact that he recorded these songs at the ripe age of 13, his performance here shows an astounding amount of promise. His interpretation of the Cutie song and the four others off his debut EP; “Blood Bank” (Bon Iver), “Summer” (Calvin Harris), “All Of Me” (John Legend), and “Hallelujah” (Cohen), are rich with new life and an assertive power not usually synonymous with a cover album.
The EP was recorded with Stephan Jenkins (from Third Eye Blind), who began managing Barnett after hearing his version of “Hallelujah.” Wise and talented beyond his years, Spencer is already getting attention in the local SF scene via Alternative Rock station KITS 105.1.
Spencer Barnett’s “13 Summers In” EP will be out this spring via Misson Records.
