MANSFIELD, MA | Country legend Shania Twain brought her electric energy to a deeply fan-centric evening at Xfinity Center, outside of Boston, Sunday, July 9.
There is no question that Twain’s focus of her tour is on the fan experience. The show began with her own surprise reveal from the center of the amphitheater, emerging in a dark dress and studded sunglasses, in the midst of a sea of fans who were simultaneously smiling, screaming, and snapping photos—face-to-face with the (man I feel like a) woman herself.
To add to the otherworldly energy, her futuristic, alien-outlaw themed visual effects only enhanced the magic of the night. The vibe was wonderfully weird, and very joyful, filled with hits—both decades beloved and brand new.
Throughout her performance, Twain offered a handful of fans a more personal experience. For one number, she welcomed select couples from the audience to the stage to watch from dimly lit high-top tables, transforming the space into an elegant and intimate experience for these individuals beaming in awe of Twain: stunning in every sense of the word.
Twain remarked on the kind and loving fan mail she has been receiving these days coming in the form of Instagram messages, and brought up two others for on-stage selfies and words of gratitude. She truly seems to embrace the gift of her fans. Sandy Smith of Providence, RI, attending her first Shania show, said “It was a wonderful show! Shania is a queen. She sounded amazing and looked as beautiful as ever.”
Samantha Turco of Auburn, MA, shared that seeing Shania Twain live for the first time was everything she expected and more. “To see her perform songs I’ve always sang and danced along to like ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much,’ ‘Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under’, and of course, ‘Man, I Feel Like A Woman’ brought me back to all those fun memories.”
This continues to be a monumental chapter for the best-selling female artist in country music history (and five-time Grammy Award-winner.) In February of 2023, Twain released her new album, Queen of Me. It notably stands out as her sixth original full-length offering and first record since 2017.
This massive global tour marks the first-time fans around the world get to see Twain in all of her glory in nearly five years, following her recent Vegas residency run. Kelsea Ballerini, Priscilla Block, Mickey Guyton (to name a few) will be joining Shania on select dates throughout the tour. The Mansfield stop invited country music newcomer Breland to join Twain on stage and to accompany her on “Air” and “Party for Two.”
The evening encore not only welcomed Twain’s return to the stage, but also the return of a certain iconic leopard print pattern — the original costume she donned in her 1998 hit video “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” causing everyone to erupt in song; the sweetest summit for these devoted fans.
