TVD Live Shots: Re:Set Concert Series, 6/24

COLUMBUS, OH | Yesterday’s Re:SET crowd was a beautiful, queer collective of youth who packed themselves as close to the stage as possible to be as close to the boygenius aura as possible. Today’s crowd? Hot gays, middle-aged couples, and noticeably chiller vibes. Less lines and more dancing. It’s LCD Soundsystem day, after all.

L’Rain—who won the merch game with her “I can’t stand L’Rain” shirt—took instant command of the crowd with her howling (yes, howling). What followed was a jazzy, avant-garde set by Taja Cheek and her excellent band.

Powerhouse performers Idles absolutely dominated the next hour. I find it fun to scan the crowd when Idles is onstage because you can immediately tell who’s witnessing their mastery for the first time. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that they’re one of the greatest live bands you could possibly see right now.

Golden hour featured a stellar DJ set by Jamie XX that got the crowd movin’ and groovin’. And closing out Re:SET Columbus Saturday was Brooklyn’s finest: LCD Soundsystem. They share “greatest live bands” status with Idles and brought out Idles bassist Adam Devonshire for an awesome cover of Joy Division’s “No Love Lost.” Also on the set list was a great “Losing My Edge” remix and their latest jam (“New Body Rhumba”), before concluding with fan favorites “Dance Yrself Clean” and “All My Friends.” It was a perfect Saturday in Ohio’s capital city.
