LEDYARD, CT | Just one day after the release of her new album Along The Way, Colbie Caillat made a very special visit to the Cedar Showroom of Foxwoods, performing before a packed theater of some of her most devoted fans. “Colbie was so humble and sweet,” said Kristen Palazzo Salvato, of Coventry RI. “She just has such a cool laid-back vibe about her. We could not have asked for a better show. Truly amazing.”
Caillat kicked off the night with fan favorites right off the bat—”Fallin’ for You;” “Realize;” “I Never Told You;” “Lucky” — many off of her early albums. “You know what’s so interesting about songwriting is that I wrote these songs—a lot of them like 15, 16 years ago or even longer—and I can find new meaning with them today in what I’m experiencing in life and who I’m hanging out with. And it’s really cool to get to sing these lyrics and just have new feeling and new meaning with them.”
Caillat added that a rewarding aspect of her career is the connection fans continue to have with her music. “They feel like they’re not alone in what they’re going through, whether they’re falling in love or going through a loss or just living life. And I know music does that for me. And then when I get to write. It’s very therapeutic. And then when I hear that my songs are helping other people with what they’re going through in life, I’m like, ‘you too!’”
Throughout the night, Caillat reminisced and engaged the audience with a glimpse into the history behind her music. As much as she is a gifted artist, she is equally a gifted and genuine storyteller. She recalled her experience working with Jason Mraz on her their duet “Lucky.”
“We were both on tour and we couldn’t physically get together and write, but we sent ideas back and forth over email. It was kind of the theme. Even when we recorded and shot the music video. I shot my part in Hawaii and he shot his in Europe. And so, it’s actually a really cool music video, how you’re just far apart from the one that you love, but you still are sending all of those positive loving things to them.”
During her set, she also featured a few uniquely crafted covers and Simon & Garfunkel’s “Cecilia” certainly stood out. In a new take on an older song, originally featured on her Gypsie Heart album, Callait performed “I’ll be Here,” (originally titled “Never Gonna Let You Down”) to some eager ears.
“When I recorded it with Babyface, he wanted to take out this tag chorus that I loved so much, but I was like, okay, it’s Babyface, I’m gonna go with it. And I always missed it. And so for this album, I wanted to release the original way I wrote it, which was like 13 years ago.” This updated track features a very special duet by Sheryl Crow. “She is the sweetest, most legendary. Her voice was perfect,” said Callait.
Along The Way is Caillat’s debut solo country album. It showcases her signature blend of folk-pop melodies and heartfelt lyrics, creating an emotional and introspective experience for listeners old and new. “These songs are written from my experiences with love and loss along the way,” said Caillat. “This is a breakup album with love and appreciation and understanding for the past, learning to be on my own and loving it, while being hopeful for what’s to come.”
With over 35 million total streams on the project prior to album launch, Caillat continues to impress after nearly two decades of career success. To date, she has been honored with two GRAMMY Awards, earned numerous RIAA Platinum and Gold certifications, and accumulated more than 15 billion streams across her catalog.
