“Like most millennials, my interest in vinyl came about from chancing upon records belonging to my parents that were stashed away in garages and closets.”

“Though I had already heard many of the albums on CD prior to finding the records, such as Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon or Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys, rediscovering them on vinyl was unforgettable! I think it had a lot to do with the warmth of the analog sound emerging from a record that was as old as the music it contained. All of that added up to an intense and almost spooky listening experience.

An all time favorite vinyl record of mine is Jethro Tull’s Thick as a Brick, which is a one of a kind album that comes with a complete mock daily newspaper. Apparently the cover took longer to produce than the music, and that’s something that can only happen when you’re dealing with vinyl!”
Mic Vredenburgh, Guitar

“My relationship with vinyl really came about randomly. Around the time I was super into the Faces and Stones, I started rummaging around through Cactus Music Store in Houston (only recently through Waterloo Records in Austin).”

“The first vinyl I think I ever picked up was First Step by the Faces. From there, my parents started unloading old vinyl onto me and got me a player for the holidays. I was given almost every Stones and Beatles record imaginable, and even got my hands on an old Sticky Fingers from the Rolling Stones with the zipper still on the packaging.

One of my old favorites was definitely Cream’s Disraeli Gears, one of my all time favorites. On this more recent holiday though I was given The 1975’s debut record, which was pressed on a clear vinyl (looks like see-through plastic, but super cool). Besides the audio quality difference, I really like vinyl records for the collector’s aspect of it.

It’s nice to have a reminder of when the majority of people actually paid for the music they listened to.”
