“Recently The Babies’ S/T first record broke a weird musical spell I was under and is always on at my house now. Besides all the usual accolades, this record wins Most Cosmic Find of 2k12 award cause I discovered them in an awkward parallel parking scandal.”
“Last Spring I had an actual real life baby, who on a weekend excursion to Williamsburg demanded that I pull over so she could eat. Being a ways from home, the meal would take place in the front seat. As I stood watch on the sidewalk, a couple dudes parking a Zip car backed into our impromptu milk bar on Grand St, which caused baby to bite and Sarah to mouth a solid “What the fuck!” at the window.
With a pissed off, boob out girl and a screaming baby riding shotgun, the driver’s apologies were sorta diverted to me. I was too amused and sleep deprived to be mad.
Later I saw a picture of these same guys on the Internet, and they’re the (boy) Babies and it turns out their record rules.
It’s unassuming and memorable. It sounds young and reminds me of when I first started playing in a band. I like that there’s two songs called “The Wild” and I like that the spell was lifted off my ears and I’m not missing another solid band from the town I live in.
And it’s cool that it’s one of the first rock and roll records my baby knows.”
