For those pining for a Brooklyn honky-tonk, poor yourself a cold one and sit in on The Falling Birds‘ new rustic ballad for the workingman, “If Time Allows.”
Principle songwriter Stephen Artemis delivers an intimate tale full of rust belt romanticism. It is no surprise the songwriter witnessed the great economic decline of upstate New York first hand while growing up. “We’re goin’ to that spot where I drink and you dance,” he sings as the song switches from weary guitar picking to barn burning rock – “so wear the pretty dress with the flowers down the side.”
The passion behind the lyrics and song are unwavering, reminding one of the reverence and personal touch Springsteen had for American storytelling. There is also a touch of Oberstian (Bright Eyes) intonation that enhances with the rawness of the song as it moves through several odd tempo changes.
The Falling Birds debut EP “Native America” will be released June 17th and is chock full of the kind of fuzzed out western grunge any god fearing parent would not want their teenager to listen to. Pre-order here.
