Needle Drop: Carrie Ashley Hill and Jeff Berrall, “Washed Up Together”

Carrie Ashley Hill and Jeff Berrall (of Caveman) excel with a simplistically poignant video for “Washed Up Together.”

Jeff said jokingly to Carrie, “You’re tired and I’m broken,” and she thought that’s a great line for a song, and so she wrote, “lay your head on my shoulder, and I’ll lean back into you.” It wasn’t long before the entire picture came into view in the form of this sweeping ballad; a touching ode to the lasting power of true friendship.

The song’s warm retro-country flavor is exalted by the performances of two New York seniors, Diane Kraft and Nancy Flowers, who convey the ultimate gift of love by being present for each other.

It’s hard to keep a dry eye after they place a Gene Clark record on the turntable and begin to haltingly dance around, but it is made clear that after the good times roll, the accolades are handed out and the applause is silenced, there is something much greater to relish. To quote Macca, “in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”
