“I’ve always regarded vinyl as the most direct and pure way one can experience music.”
“I find a great deal of difference between listening to a song on a record versus clicking or tapping to hear a digital music file. The sound seems thicker to me and more er.. musical.. You get what I’m saying, right?
My favorite record I own is the first pressing of Magical Mystery Tour by The Beatles. I love how the title track already has a warbling effect and coupled with the warmth and reality of vinyl, it sends me somewhere, like I’m really on a tour hosted by the fab four.
I love how substantial a record feels and the large canvas it supplies for the artwork or photo the artist has intended for you to associate with the collection of music. I’m always anxious to pull the record to see if there are more pictures or art on the sleeve. They are ones often times left out of the sleeve for a CD and I’m always seeking more information when I’m way into an artist.
I have a short “get list” at the moment for records but they are very important ones. The Flying Burrito Brothers’ Guilded Palace of Sin, Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska, and Radio City by Big Star. All of these albums for various reasons beg me to possess them in vinyl format.
Thankfully, I have a good friend down the block who own ’em all and lets me spin them until my heart’s content. I mean hey, if you don’t own a lot of records, certainly the next best thing is having a friend to fill in the gaps of your catalog, yea?!”
