Introducing The Vinyl District Storefront

…and no, we’re not selling anything.

Back when I was a kid, I was notoriously prone to homesickness. My best buddy Spike would often invite me to his family’s campground and at some point over the weekend, particularly around sunset, I’d get a bout of the blues and miss my home and family. “What are they doing…what did they have for dinner…?” I’d wonder, losing sleep to the sound of the bug zapper.

Often it’s no different here at TVD in some respects. It might come as a surprise, but not every day affords the ability to zip around all of the TVD cities in our network of blogs and check in. “What’s Jennifer at TVD LA or Jay at TVD in New Orleans recommending for the weekend? Who has Rachel at TVD Memphis booked into Ardent Studios for the week? What’s spinning on Laurence’s turntable this morning at TVD UK?”

Thus, we’re about to have these questions answered in one spot, every day.

Welcome to the TVD Storefront.

We’re taking all of our cities’ inventory out from the back and putting it right up in front of the store where it belongs—in one location, right here daily. Calling this one-stop destination the “Storefront” also affords us chance to underscore what you’ve come to expect from us—the reverence for all things mom and pop, brick and mortar. And indie.

So, what does it mean for you who visit thevinyldistrict.com address every day? Well, three times the content, really.

What does it mean for all of you who have bookmarked just one of our regional city sites? Your TVD experience and your bookmark won’t change and your localized content will remain the same. You have the option to check into the Storefront if and when you desire.

And what does it mean for those of you who’ve become accustomed to all your Washington, DC record store news and vinyl and ticket giveaways right here at this address? They’ll all be in the exact same spot every day, tagged as DC content. In fact, shortly every post will be tagged to let you know right away from which TVD it originates. Click to read more and you’ll be propelled to that city of origin.

If you’d like to only read Washington, DC content, you have the option to do so at thevinyldistrict.com/dc—its new shortcut address. But again, all of the content you’re used will be at the bookmark you’ve already saved.

Our thanks go out once more to Aaron Powell for his unique brand of magic and my thanks to Olivia Ung, a true force of nature to whom I’m indebted for just about everything around here these days.

We’re still working out a few bugs here and there, but by and large—we’re off! Please let us know how you feel about the changes around the place. We think they’re for the better.

(And would it kill you to visit our friends over there in the left and right hand columns and buy some records? Didn’t think so.)
