VIA PRESS RELEASE | Suede have announced details of Autofiction: Expanded. Set for release on 8th December via BMG, the major new collection arrives in celebration of the band’s ninth studio album, Autofiction, one year since its initial release and matched with rare bonus tracks, unheard material, and a full live album.
Debuting at #2 in the UK Albums Chart, Autofiction marked Suede’s highest charting LP since 1999’s Head Music. The album has been received as a career best with the NME hailing “one of the greatest comebacks of the 21st Century,” The Observer applauding “a late-career triumph,” MOJO praising “an urgent, heroic and gothically-attuned take on guitar rock” in their Top Ten Albums of the Year, whilst Uncut heard Suede’s “best album in decades.” The upcoming Autofiction: Expanded release will be available digitally and in a 3 CD set, with CD 1 featuring the essential Autofiction studio album.
CD 2 features six extra tracks and rarities. Four of the songs, “The Sadness In You, The Sadness In Me,” “Days Like Dead Moths,” “The Prey,” and “Still Waiting” were only available during the first week following the album’s original 2022 release, until now. The disc also includes “You Don’t Know Me,” as featured on the Japanese edition of Autofiction and, “There Is No Me If There Is No You”—an as yet unreleased song recorded by Suede during the Autofiction album sessions.
CD 3 contains the new Autofiction live album, recorded at shows across Suede’s entirely sold-out UK tour in March 2023. The new live album captures the feral spirit of Autofiction—a record that sees Suede reconnecting with the same energy they harnessed when they began making music over 30 years ago. “Autofiction is Suede’s punk record,” Brett Anderson said. “No whistles and bells. Just the five of us in a room with all the glitches and fuck-ups revealed; the band themselves exposed in all their primal mess.”
This sense of vitality and urgency has flowed through every performance the band has given surrounding the release of Autofiction. The band launched the album by debuting first single “She Still Leads Me On” live on stage at a surprise performance in Brussels, live streamed for fans all over the world. Suede then performed a pair of secret club shows under the guise of Crushed Kid—taking the back to basics nature of the record to the extreme by performing under a fake name and debuting their new album live, in its entirety. No encore, no greatest hits.
The following Autofiction headline tour, with sold out shows across the UK through September and October 2022, and March 2023, has seen the band’s live set receive widespread acclaim. The Telegraph championed “a band reborn,” The Guardian praised “a euphoric return,” and CLASH confirmed an “unrelenting display of where Suede stand in 2022.”
Meeting huge demand, Suede’s final Autofiction live performances will take place at seven sold out shows across the UK in December, including three nights at London’s Brixton Electric. In June 2024, Suede will join the Manic Street Preachers for a massive co-headline tour of the UK and Ireland’s premier outdoor venues including Cardiff Castle, Manchester Castlefield Bowl, Leeds’ Millennium Square, and Eden Sessions, St Austell. The tour has almost completely sold out, with the last few tickets for Edinburgh Castle and London’s Alexandra Palace Park available via www.gigsandtours.com and www.ticketmaster.co.uk.
Suede and the Manic Street Preachers’ UK shows follow a sold out 2022 joint US tour that saw both bands receive a fantastic reception with Spin magazine hailing “a joyous return.” The groups are also playing several dates in Asia together in November in Taiwan, Singapore and Japan.
