“On a personal note, my love for vinyl started when I inherited my parents’ vinyl collection, lots of Motown and soul, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Bread… it’s technically still their collection but I give the records a good home and make sure they get plenty of love.”

“Over the years I have built up my collection and for every occasion Paula and I will buy each other a vinyl. Last Christmas I got Paula Abbey Road, The Beatles and Tusk, Fleetwood Mac and she got me The Affair, Easy Access Orchestra. I also briefly worked at Ninja Tune Records which dramatically boosted my collection.

Vinyl, in our humble opinion, is the future of music consumption. It’s already started, but we believe that one day CDs will be phased out. Most people still have a desire for a treasured physical product to accompany the music, but CDs are not magical enough to fill these shoes… will the vinyl please stand up and take a bow.

Everything about vinyl encourages respect; it’s a delicate and complex entity. You can’t rest a coffee on it or throw it around the room (this was literally the sales pitch for CDs—doomed from the start.) You need to look after it, clean it, and make a conscious effort to place it on the record player, carefully lower the needle to play it… this action alone means you’re going to give it your full attention.

Now don’t get us wrong, digital is brilliant! In many ways it’s groundbreaking for independent artists like us. Records are not the most portable items, if you tried to stick a record player in your back-pack to listen to a vinyl on the move, you would know about it… aside from the weight, you would have to walk like you’re back running the egg and spoon race to ensure the needle doesn’t bounce… you get the point.

So, the hot couple for 2014 and onward is… vinyl and digital download codes. Everyone’s a winner, we truly hope this becomes the future of music.”
