Halloween is creeping up on us and that means one thing is on the mind of every record collector: in the zombie apocalypse, which albums in your collection would you be willing to throw at the head of a zombie to decapitate, maim, or stun it?
Courtney E. Smith, author Record Collecting for Girls is pulling out the heavy guns from her record collection this week at TVD.
I brought up the question of which records to throw at zombies, in the coming zombie apocalypse, to my Twitter feed and was inundated with all the expected replies: Michael Jackson’s Thriller, The Cranberries “Zombie,” anything by The Zombies, Kanye West “Monster,” R.E.M.’s Monster, and anything by Rob Zombie.
I think if you’re going to try and kill a zombie with an ironic record, you should go with a true classic:
It’s doubtful you’ll do much damage with a 45. Maybe a flesh wound if you aim it just right. The point of this one isn’t to kill them though. You’re just indulging your own sense of humor.
Pickett, of all people, would appreciate that. He’d get the disposable nature of his gimmick record. Everyone else who was suggested were recording their zombie/monster records as SRSBSNSS. They’d just be offended. Unless the zombie you’re trying to kill actually is zombified Kanye West, in which case you should totally throw his own records at him because I’m sure he can’t collect royalties on those plays and sales after he’s undead anyway.
I don’t actually own a copy of this 45, but I will begin scouting carefully for one now that it has been determined to be the best possible zombie/monster record for the situation.
