Yes, That Was Recorded In San Francisco: Sly & the Family Stone- Stand!

San Francisco has a rich musical history so I thought it would be a great idea to dive in and explore the legendary albums that have been recorded here. This week we take a look back at Sly and the Family Stone’s soul funk to the core masterpiece, Stand!

Stand!, is the fourth album from Sly & the Family Stone, and arguably the bands finest moment. This groundbreaking 1969 LP was the launch pad for Sly and Co. to super-stardom. Written and produced by lead singer and multi-instrumentalist Sly Stone, Stand! was the band’s breakout album and went on to sell over three million copies becoming one of the most successful albums of the 1960s. Four of the album’s seven songs, including the Hall of Fame tracks “Everyday People” and “I Want To Take You Higher,” shot straight to the top of the charts.

It was recorded at the now defunct Pacific High Studios (the cities first twelve track recording studio). Next time you walk past this legendary spot, imagine Sly laying down tracks to one of the greatest R&B funk albums ever to lay comfortably under the needle of your turntable. (Stand! was recently re-issued on vinyl if you don’t already have the LP)

Do you celebrate the greatness of this classic LP? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
