New Music Tuesday: 6 Records You Need to Know About Now

Thurston Moore – Demolished Thoughts – Sonic Youth singer, songwriter, guitarist, and leader of the noisy guitar shoegazer club showcases his songwriting ability and strips it down to the bare bones. Hopefully the production credit of Beck Hansen will be enough to give this record the broader audience it truly deserves. (available on vinyl)

Foster the People – Torches – Huge buzz, critical darlings, and they sound like an American Peter, Bjorn, and John; should be big in the hipster circuit. (available on vinyl)

Friendly Fires – Pala – A perfect blend of sythn pop and world beat flavor. Imagine Peter Gabriel crossed with Scissor Sisters. These guys have truly outdone themselves and 2011 could very well be a breakout year for them. (available on vinyl)

Lady Gaga – Born This Way – I am a big believer that you can in fact get too much of a good thing. Although there’s no denying the delicate genius has talent, I would like to keep the “everywhere I look” bombardment to a minimum. (available on vinyl)

She Wants Revenge – Valleyheart – They’ve traded in the Joy Division doom and gloom for a bit of Depeche Mode-esque, U2-ish optimism. The band’s third full length offering is a welcome change and really showcases their diversity.

Fleetwood Mac – Rumours – The landmark classic gets a well deserved vinyl reissue. Limited Edition 4000 worldwide pressing.
