Glasvegas – Euphoric Heartbreak – One of the most incredible live bands I have ever seen return with an epic modern masterpiece of a record. This thing has more layers than Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, yet so much more interesting. An absolutely gorgeous record that I hope does not go unnoticed. Produced by Flood (U2, The Killers, Depeche Mode) and my pick for the week!
Ben Harper – Give Til It’s Gone – You either love this guy or think he’s great background music. I love it when he wails on the electric slide guitar, but not a fan of the singer songwriter mellowness. Regardless, he has a new record out today.
Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi – Rome – An album inspired by the music of spaghetti westerns, five years in the making, and recorded in true old-school analog fashion on tape (sort of a big middle finger to the digital world). Features guest vocals by Jack White and Norah Jones. They’re bringing sexy-cinematica back. (Of course it’s available on vinyl!)
Moby – Destroyed – I assure you I was just as surprised as you were when I realized Moby had a new record. (Available on vinyl)
Queens of the Stone Age – This Rekords Records re-issue (in conjunction with Domino) has been fully remastered from the original tapes and has been expanded by three tracks on both CD and double viny.
Deftones – Around the Fur – Clearly their best record and a defining moment in metal. Now on 180 gram vinyl.
The Go Go’s– Beauty and the Beat 30th Anniversary Edition – Rediscover this pop gem from the first all-female band to write their own songs, play their own instruments and have a No.1 album on the Billboard charts. (Available on vinyl)
Warrant – Rockaholic – If the title is any indication of the music, it’s probably a terrible record, but the “Cherry Pie” guys still have a surprisingly dedicated following. (Not sure vinyl was in the budget for this one!)
