John Butler Trio, Dawes, and Dr. John are among the list of artists who have been added to the three-day festival hosted by the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A radio, WXPN.
Prior to this week, the only known artists to be playing this year’s XPoNential Fetsival were Dr. Dog, The Lumineers, Policia, and Wake Owl. All four bands are playing at the Susquehanna Bank Center on July 27th and a ticket to the festival includes admission to the lawn section at the show.
Earlier this week WXPN shared the full lineup with the world, and this year as with every year, it features an eclectic mix of artists young and old, ranging from local to legendary, and everything in between. On top of that, the festival has partnered with the Susquehanna Bank Center to allow fans access to lawn seats for Bob Dylan’s “AmericanaramA” tour when it stops by on July 28th.
The weekend long festival is returning July 27th–29th to Wiggins Park, located directly across the Delaware River in Camden, New Jersey. It’s the 9th consecutive year for the waterfront location and second consecutive year of a partnership with the neighboring Susquehanna Bank Center. John Butler Trio, Dawes, and Dr. John top the list of over 15 new additions. Other highlights include rising singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuaka, indie folk group Lord Huron, and bluegrass revivalist veterans Trampled By Turtles.
The radio station has always been a strong supporter of the local music community, keeping its acts in heavy rotation. When it comes down to selecting artists for the festival, the home team is also well reflected.
Last year bands like The War On Drugs, City Rain, and Work Drugs represented Philadelphia’s Music Scene. This year the torch is passed along to Dr. Dog, DRGN KNG, and Alo Brasil. Other artists like The Stray Birds and The Districts also hail from neighboring cities within the southeast region of Pennsylvania.
Along with gaining entry into the Dr. Dog/ The Lumineers show at Susquehanna Bank Center on Saturday, 7/27, three-day passes will also allow festival goers access to Bob Dylan’s recently announced “AmericanaramA” tour. Bob Dylan and his band are hitting the road this summer with Wilco and My Morning Jacket and the three stop by Susquehanna Bank Center the following day, the 28th. Tickets can be purchased individually—but for those who get three-day passes, they are guaranteed a lawn seat for the show.
All in all, over 20 acts are confirmed so far for 2013 installment of the XPoNential Festival and more will be added as festival approaches. Aside from a weekend full of great music, a wide range of food and craft venders along with a special stage dedicated to the kiddies round out a well-balanced experience the entire family can enjoy.
Tickets are currently available for any first time or renewing WXPN members who pledge $24 dollars a month to the radio station. Doing so will enable a three-day pass to the festival as well as a year-long WXPN membership. The membership will grant special access to the artist meet and greet section at the festival too. General Manager of WXPN, Roger LaMay is already calling this year’s festival “the Philadelphia-area event of the summer” and there are still more artists left to be announced!
Either head over to xpn.org now to become a member or wait until May 1st to grab tickets. Regardless of which avenue you take, be sure not to miss out on this year’s XPoNential Festival!
