Philadelphia’s self-proclaimed premiere Bar Mitzvah and Quinceanera party band turn two this winter. As a present to their fans, they share a completely new song free.
It’s difficult to think of a harder working band than Work Drugs. Since their start in the winter of 2010, the band has released an impressive five albums. Out of those five, four were recorded completely on their own.
Work Drugs recently released, Delta, their latest album and first to come out on vinyl. It features polished, mastered versions of tracks from their previous efforts, as well as a few unreleased tunes.
With the record available at the beginning of December, many bands would wait until the new year before releasing any new material. Instead, Work Drugs decided to not only share their latest single just weeks after a new album, but they are also giving it away free! “Young Lungs” is not only a generous offering from the band, but it’s also one of their strongest and catchiest singles to date.
“Young Lungs” sees Work Drugs moving away from their signature, laid back mix of “dream pop meets yacht rock” toward a more upbeat, dance tune. Instrumentally, it’s very reminiscent of M83’s Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming with moving drum beats, heavy reliance on synths, and saxophone solos, paired with disco-esque guitar lines and falsetto vocals.
Work Drugs look to continue with their momentum into 2013. While no official plans are set yet, given their work ethic, it will only be a matter of time before there’s another new release from Philadelphia’s purveyors of smooth, smooth jams.
