After a full week of frigid temperatures, it looks like things are going to warm up just in time for the weekend!
On top of the days of arctic temperatures, the nation avoided the scary possibility of being led for four years by Big-Bird-hating Mitt. So whether you’re going out to celebrate four more years with Obama and Biden or simply just because it’s the weekend and you’re trying to have some fun, here are some of the best ways to do so in the city of brotherly love.
Friday, November 9th | Local electro producer trio Les Professionnels are celebrating the release of their new EP Move! tonight at Kung Fu Necktie. Helping them with the festivities will be Vacationer, the new dance pop band headed by the singer/bassist of The Starting Line, Kenny Vasoli.
Also in town tonight are hardcore/metal punks Converge as they stop by Union Transfer. They recently released their latest album All We Love We Leave Behind in early October and if you have not heard it yet, go listen now. It’s going to sit high atop many “Best Of” lists come the end of the year. Joining them tonight are Torche, Kvelertak and Whips/Chains.
Saturday, November 10th | The Trocadero Theatre welcomes Interpol frontman Paul Banks Saturday night. Three years after his first solo album (under his former stage name Julian Plenti) Paul Banks returned this year with the release of his sophomore effort, Banks.
Joining him at the Chinatown venue will be Norman, Oklahoma’s The Neighbourhood. Down on South Street at the TLA, celebrated American guitarist Gary Clark, Jr. performs with Kat Edmonson. Clark released Blak and Blu, his first major label full length album a few weeks ago and is touring in support of it.
Sunday, November 11th | The weekend comes to a close on a quieter note as Portland’s Horse Feathers stop by Johnny Brenda’s. Led by Justin Ringle, the folk group released it’s fourth studio album back in the spring of this year. Cynic’s New Year mixes Ringle’s smooth voice with beautifully orchestrated songs that are layered with delicate guitar and banjo parts along with lush string arrangements. Opening for them will be California guitar/banjo/fiddle and former street musician Frank Fairfield.
