TVD Recommends: Pissed Jeans with Purling Hiss at Union Transfer, 2/8

A trio of local acts share the stage at Union Transfer this Saturday showcasing the noisier side of the Philly music scene.

After a busy 2013 that culminated with albums landing on many year-end lists, Pissed Jeans and Purling Hiss return this Saturday night for a hometown show at Union Transfer. Local two-piece outfit Trophy Wife round out a lineup that features some of the best that the city has to offer.

Eardrums be warned, this show will be a loud one. Since their beginnings Pissed Jeans have always leaned on the noisier side of the punk spectrum. Take any song off of last year’s release, Honeys as an example. And while there may be some limitations on the studio versions of their songs, each one is unleashed when they hit the stage.

For years Purling Hiss has made a name for themselves as one of the great guitar driven bands to have emerged from Philadelphia. The project of guitarist Mike Poilizze, Purling Hiss recorded their first three records out of Poilizze’s bedroom studio. For last year’s Water on Mars, Purling Hiss ventured to an outside studio and resulted in an album that features Poilizze’s incredible guitar work at center stage…and stage left and right as well. With a pulsing rhythm section laying the foundation, Poilizze leaves no sonic area unexplored.

Opening the show are the duo of two former Washington, DC residents Katy and Diane aka Trophy Wife. Now currently calling Philadelphia home, the two have kept busy releasing two full length albums. Their latest, Sing What Scares You even features lyrics in German and French. Trophy Wife is currently hard at work on their third album so don’t be surprised if you hear a new song or two Saturday night.

Tickets for Saturday night’s show are still on sale and are available here. Doors are at 8 PM and music begins at 8:30 PM. Make sure your ears are prepared for the sonic onslaught they’ll endure.
