The hardcore and punk festival This is Hardcore returns for 2013 with the likes of Kid Dynamite, Modern Life Is War, and GWAR.
Amidst all of the fun and trickery that is April Fool’s Day, local hardcore promoter Joe Hardcore released the first wave of information surrounding this year’s This Is Hardcore festival. The four-day celebration will take place August 8-11 at The Electric Factory. Now in its eighth year, the festival found a new home last year in the Electric Factory. So far, only four- and three-day passes are available, for $125 and $100 respectively. There is no word yet on when individual day tickets will be available to the public.
Headlining This Is Hardcore 2013 will be a reunited Modern Life Is War and Kid Dynamite, as well as GWAR. While there were many rumors swirling around Modern Life Is War getting back together for the first time since 1998, nothing was concrete until last week. To coincide with the festival announcement, the band included a separate one (that can be seen at the end of the article) proclaiming their return, in addition to a new album due out in September. This Is Hardcore 2013 will mark their first reunion show of the year.
Influential hardcore-punk band Kid Dynamite returns after first reuniting back in 2010 for the same festival. The Jade Tree Records vets were one of the surprise guests at the show before and were not expected to be playing this year. The other headliner, GWAR, came as a bigger shock. The festival is typically not known to reach across other genres to include the likes of bands such as GWAR.
Other notable acts include Ceremony, Killing Time, Negative Approach, Trapped Under Ice, and 7 Seconds. Ceremony return after having been absent from the festival for a few years. Killing Time and Negative Approach both appeared last year but are playing again due to the sheer popularity of their sets. Trapped Under Ice announced earlier this year that 2013 would be the end for the Maryland band; This Is Hardcore will mark as their final show. In contrast, Kevin Seconds and his band 7 Seconds will be making their debut at the festival this year.
With usually over 50 bands performing, there are still a large number left to be announced. Mainstays like Blacklisted and Title Fight have yet to be announced, as well as additional headliners. Following suit with last year, the after-party shows for each night are still to come. Additional information regarding the line-up, as well as the participating food trucks, vendors, and individual day tickets will come as we get closer to August. With it being the second year at the festival’s largest venue to date, look for some eye-catching acts to be added to the bill!
