It’s not often that Northern Californian psych rockers Sleepy Sun make it to our Atlantic shores, but now on the heels of their excellent brand-new album, Spine Hits, we New Yorkers get a chance to see the band’s rock n’ roll magic live. And you have the opportunity to see that live magic free of charge at Brooklyn’s Glasslands Gallery!
I’ve been listening to the new Spine Hits album a lot the last few weeks and I think it’s their best album yet. They seemed to have refined their sound, trimmed some of the fat, without sacrificing the quality of songs.
In fact, Spine Hits pulls back the veil and reveals the fact that Sleepy Sun is a band that knows what the hell they’re doing. And what they’re doing is writing and performing a fantastically compelling and melodic array of songs. It ain’t easy to find modern rock bands that succeed equally at pulling off upbeat rockers and slow-burning dirges.
