A few months ago, David Pattillo at Bang Bang Boogaloo Records asked me if I’d be interested in curating their next compilation of new outstanding music. And as someone who can testify that there is a bevy of phenomenal music being made these days that I’d love more people to hear…I replied “hell yeah!”
After a few months of reaching out to many of the bands and artists that I regularly play on my East Village Radio show and choosing which songs to use, we are now happy to share with the world a brand-new, nearly two-hour, magical musical journey featuring some of the greatest psychedelic and “cage-free” music being made in the U.S. of A. in these present and future times.
These supernatural artists include Hopewell, Woodsman, Minerva Lions, Mondo Drag, Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter, Buffalo Killers, Paperhead, Velcro Lewis Group, Conspiracy of Owls, The Zabalas, Amy Annelle, Citay, Jeffertiti’s Nile, Herbcraft, Bizi Gara, Outrageous Cherry, Main Street Gospel, Blues Pills, Heavy Eyes and Brooklyn Raga Association.
I purposely sequenced this baby so that it would have a lot of built-in peaks and valleys and be a cohesive, delightful listen all the way through to the end. So if you’re ready to sit down and listen for the next two hours, go ahead now and download the whole thing and enjoy the ride!
As Beyond Beyond is Beyond comes only as a free digital download release and many of you might rather be introduced to this music in bite-size portions, I thought it would be fun to break it up into albums sides, the way it would be split up if it were to be pressed to vinyl. So let’s take a listen to Disc 1, Side A of the 6-sided Beyond Beyond is Beyond compilation.
First up is new Brooklyn transplants from Denver, Woodsman. The band’s two drummers and two guitar players are constantly moving, shifting their collective consciousness toward something mutual. Listen…

The Paperhead is a pop/psychedelic band from Nashville, Tennessee. The band members wrote and recorded their debut album in the summer of 2010 at the age of 18. The band’s name is inspired by a lyric in “My Clown,” a song by ’60s British psych-band July. Their self-titled LP is out on the great Trouble in Mind Records. Dig…
The Paperhead – Can’t Keep My Eyes Open by Bang Bang Boogaloo
Third song on Disc 1, Side A comes from Cincinnati, Ohio’s Buffalo Killers. These guys take 60s psych, Laurel Canyon harmonies, James Gang guitars and an uncanny knack for melody, shake it up and make a mighty fine musical cocktail, as evidenced on their latest album ‘3’ on Alive Naturalsound Records.
Buffalo Killers – Lily of the Valley by Bang Bang Boogaloo
Next up is Detroit’s Conspiracy of Owls. Fronted by Bobby Harlow, lead vocalist for The Go, Conspiracy of Owls incorporate everything from “Space Rock atmospherics and ’60s bubblegum Pop sweetness to ’70s lysergic Rock swirl, Dub beat madness and Baroque Pop ambition, COO shimmers and sighs like an impossible focus group made up of the Beach Boys, Todd Rundgren, Spiritualized, Kula Shaker and Nada Surf trying to come up with a committee song that will faithfully represent every decade since the British Invasion.” – Brian Baker, Cincinnati City Beat
Conspiracy of Owls – The Lesson by Bang Bang Boogaloo
And our last song on Disc 1, Side A of Beyond Beyond is Beyond comes strong from a band birthed out of Northwest Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee…The Heavy Eyes. The band describes their music as psychedelic blues rock from the delta that sounds similar to a skeleton driving a speed boat on a flaming Mississippi River headed back to 1969. Right on…
The Heavy Eyes – Iron Giants by Bang Bang Boogaloo
Tomorrow we’ll have Disc 1, Side B of the Beyond Beyond is Beyond compilation. Or you can head over to Bang Bang Boogaloo now and grab the whole thing. And if you’re in NYC, come on out to Brooklyn’s Shea Stadium Thursday night at 9pm for the comp release party featuring Hopewell, Woodsman, the Zabalas and a DJ set from Jared of the Minerva Lions!
