One of TVD NYC’s favorite local labels, Captured Tracks is releasing two amazing vinyl LPs today. The Beets bring you their latest full-length, Stay Home and MINKS present their new LP, By The Hedge .
Stay Home is the second album from Jackson Heights, Queens based The Beets. I can’t remember the last time I read a more accurate band bio, than the one that pens The Beets as harnessing the “emotional singalongs you and your friends had in college, if you and your friends had been musical geniuses reinventing 1960s garage rock with poppy no-fi tracks.” A Beets live show is like all of the good parts of your best friend’s birthday party and then leaving before you have to help clean up the mess.
By The Hedge is the first full-length from MINKS and their third release on Captured Tracks, following two warmly received 7-inch singles earlier in 2010. Frontman and songwriter Sean Kilfoyle has been applauded for his seamless ability to evoke joy, sadness and nostalgia with the melodically pervasive material on the singles, and the tracks on By The Hedge are not any less impressive. MINKS will be heading out on a national tour with DUM DUM GIRLS in Februrary.
As is the habit of Captured Tracks (and one of the many reasons we love them so) these releases are each silkscreen, limited edition color vinyl. Stay Home is available on clear vinyl (oooh!) and By The Hedge is pressed on white wax (aahhh!) with both records featuring cool alternate cover art. Only 400 special edition pieces were made of each so hurry up and order now lest you be stuck with the “plain regular black” version that will not get you nearly as many “oohs” and aahs” at your next Beets/MINKS listening party. The gravity joke on the The Beets’ special edition cover is worth the immediate purchase alone.
