Times Talks is a regular series the gray lady puts on, usually pairing the intellect of artists, writers, and directors with equally intriguing and prolific interviewers. Think all of the best parts of college lectures without the 8am class time or tuition. Highlights from the last three days included a live conversation with Trent Reznor and music critic Jon Pareles about Reznor’s career and integral role in scoring the film The Social Network, and Rufus and Martha Wainwright discussing their art, music, and life as siblings. The marathon of discourse delved into television and theater as well, with co-creator of HBO hit series Boardwalk Empire, Terence Winters and key cast members of the show (Steve Buscemi, Michael Shannon, Paz de la Huerta) exchanging takes on character development and plot themes, and acclaimed Broadway director Michael Mayer sat down with Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong to talk about his music’s journey from Gilman St. to Broadway Ave.
The full roster of talent from the weekend is here. Tickets went fast, and if you weren’t quick enough to scoop a pair there’s still an opportunity to tune in to what you missed as Times Talks makes all of their content available online in the form of videos and podcasts.
While we wait for all of the content to get uploaded, you can catch a sneak peak of the Trent Reznor interview above.
