Weekend Shots!

The temperature may have dropped but there are still two festivals scheduled for this weekend. Luckily only one is outdoors. There is also a special anniversary party Friday night. Read on!

Saturday morning at 11 AM, the Tremé Brass Band kicks off the 4th annual Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival. The event, which is sponsored by the Jazz and Heritage Foundation (the good folks that bring us the Jazz Fest every Spring), takes place in the parking lot of the Jazz and Heritage Center on N. Rampart Street.

Shannon Powell follows at 1 PM. A new band, the Characters of “Tremé,” is an all-star group with musicians that have performed in the HBO series joining together. Expect to see John Boutte, Davis Rogan, Tom McDermott, and Matt Perrine. The Rebirth Brass Band closes the day out.

Saturday evening, the 2nd annual New Orleans Latin Jazz Festival begins at 9:30 PM at the Mid City Lanes Rock ‘n’ Bowl. Mas Mamones, David Phy’s Influenca and Otra! are scheduled to perform with special guests Fredy Omar, Paky Saavedra, and Riccardo Crespo.

Has it really been ten years? Friday night, Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes celebrate a decade together at Tipitina’s. Most of the musicians that have matriculated through its ranks over the years are expected to join in at some point. Other special guests are expected as well. Flow Tribe opens. See you there!
