Today’s date holds a lot symbolism for believers in numerology. Fishheads are among that number since the Radiators traditionally began their concerts at 11:11 PM. Head over to Tipitina’s tonight to celebrate the rare confluence.
Dave Malone, one of the lead guitarists and the front man for the Radiators said that he couldn’t let the auspicious date pass by. So he has convened three-fifths of the band, which broke up last June due to the retirement of the group’s main songwriter Ed Volker, to perform as Raw Oyster Cult.
Joining Malone will be fellow guitarist Camile Baudoin and the group’s drummer Frank Bua. Filling in on bass and keys respectively will be Dave Pomerleau from Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes and John Gros from Papa Grows Funk. The show will begin, as you have probably figured out already, at 11:11 PM. If I knew how to use Photoshop I would have put Dave, Camile and Frank’s faces on the oysters!

Tomorrow afternoon, the Louisiana Music Factory resumes its in-store concert series after several weeks off with performances by Debauche and the Ed Barrett Trio.
Debauche plays Russian mafia music and that’s no joke. The leader is from the Ukraine and he sings with abandon while playing an acoustic guitar. The rest of the band accompanies him on upright bass, fiddle and drums.
Ed Barrett is an up-and-coming jazz guitarist who has a new CD out called Hocus Pocus. Boyanna Trayanova will join him on drums and Joshua Gouzy on bass.
Saturday night, head over to the Blue Nile for a performance by Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes. Other options include the Revivalists at One-Eyed Jack’s with Rotary Downs opening and Terry Evans at the Maple Leaf Bar.
Evans has spent most of his career as a sideman. But the list of performers he has supported is pretty impressive—John Lee Hooker, Pops Staples, Ry Cooder and John Fogerty are among the bigger names. But the list is long. He fronts his own band for a rare show in New Orleans.
