Irma Thomas is playing at the Oyster Festival in the French Quarter on Sunday at 6 PM. She is one of the legends, don’t miss her—and it’s free! James Andrews, and Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. precede her.
Saturday’s headliner is John Popper of Blues Traveler fame with his side project, the Dusk Ray Troubadours. The Tremé Brass Band, featuring 80-year old “Uncle” Lionel Batiste kicks things off at 11:45 AM.
Friday night, Lynn Drury brings her killer band to Le Bon Temp Roule and across uptown the Jake Eckert Band throws down at the Maple Leaf Bar. His day job is playing guitar with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, but he keeps good company with his solo act. Expect to see Cornell Williams on bass, Jeff Watkins on sax, Mike Burkhart on keys and Mack Carter on drums.
Free Show of the Week– Saturday afternoon, the pianist Bob Andrews and Charmaine Neville do in-store performances at the Louisiana Music Factory. Andrews starts at 2 PM and Charmaine is at 3 PM.
Saturday night, the one and only Toots Hibbert and his band the Maytals headlines at the House of Blues. His song “Pressure Drop” is one of the true classics. Again I say, don’t miss the legends.
